Ivan and Chance
Smarttoysfordogs.com was developed out of necessity.  I simply thought my dogs were too smart for a lot of toys out there.  I had to look high and low for the greatest, most innovative toys that would keep my dogs challenged and entertained.

This need arose during the time when I had two dogs, Ivan and Chance.  Ivan and Chance had very different needs.  They were not motivated by the same things.  Ivan liked the challenging and interactive puzzles that usually involved food as a reward.  While Chance liked that too, he also liked balls,  toys that made a noise, and toys that involved me!

My dogs, Ivan (Lab Mix) and Chance (Lab-Border Collie mix) are my favorite hobbies.  I do a lot of things that involve them.  Searching for fun and interactive toys didn’t feel like work.  It was fun going to all the websites and discovering new ways to engage and challenge my dogs.

As time went on, I found myself recommending dog products to family and friends as well as directing them to links to websites and resources on the internet to help them with pet related items.

This gave me the idea to put all the results of my research in one area.  The products I feature are ones that I have used and can give feedback on based on my experience.

The other piece to this website came from my interest in volunteering at animal shelters in the area.  Ivan and Chance both came from the Kootenai Humane Society, located in Hayden, ID, where I walk the shelter dogs.  I am also an Adoption Counselor as well as a FIDO trainer at SCRAPS (Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Services).  SCRAPS is located in Spokane Valley,  WA, where Smarttoysfordogs.com is based.

Because of my special interest in shelters, I feature links to organizations that promote and/or benefit saving homeless pets.

10% of proceeds of this website goes to animal shelters as part of my commitment to these animals.

Recently, Chance crossed the Rainbow Bridge.  He was a very very special dog and friend.  I dedicate this website to him.  Because of him, I have decided to train my next dog to be a therapy dog.  This will be a new journey for me and my family and a very exciting one.   Stay tuned as I document this very exciting journey.
